WNBA guard Natasha Cloud made it clear she was thrilled with the results of Tuesday’s midterm elections, which saw Democrats win control of both the House and the Senate, according to OutKick. Cloud celebrated on social media as the returns rolled in, reshashing Garcia’s warning alongside her own three-letter caption: “BTA!” The abbreviation stands for “belt to [expletive],” an expression used for dominating or defeating an opponent.
Conservative Commentators Criticize Recent Social Media Post
The social media post drew sharp backlash from conservative commentators. OutKick columnist Matt Calkins accused Cloud of relishing the division
by contrasting her post with messages calling for national unity.
Cloud has a history of political outspokenness and has clashed with conservatives before. In August, she was involved in a heated confrontation with Enes Kanter Freedom during a Chicago Sky game. Kanter Freedom was subsequently ejected from the arena and later filed a lawsuit against the Sky. Cloud has not responded to the recent criticism over her midterm posts.
Athlete Reactions Across the Sports World
Cloud was not the only prominent athlete who celebrated the midterm election outcomes on social media. Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers shared support on her Instagram Story for Texas Democrats James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa following their respective wins in the Senate and gubernatorial races, accompanied by a blue heart emoji.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams also reposted several TikTok videos celebrating the Democratic victories. His shares highlighted clips concerning Talarico’s win and Keisha Lance Bottoms becoming the first Black woman elected governor of a U.S. state.
Other athletes took a different approach to the political cycle. WNBA player Sophie Cunningham shared a post from podcaster Andy Frisella arguing that politics is downstream of culture and that building a better America starts with individual actions.
