Workers to Protest Jakarta’s 2026 Minimum Wage Today

Jakarta – Masses of workers will demonstrate at the Merdeka Palace today, rejecting the proposed DKI Jakarta Provincial Minimum wage (UMP) increase for 2026, which sets the wage at IDR 5.7 million.

The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labor Party have announced the demonstration will span two days, focusing on demands related to the UMP and sectoral wages.

KSPI President Said Iqbal stated the labor demonstration will take place today and tommorow,December 30,2025,centered around the Merdeka Palace in Central jakarta.

“Tens of thousands of workers will demonstrate for two consecutive days, on 29 and 30 December 2025, at the State Palace, Jakarta,” Iqbal told reporters on Sunday (December 28, 2025).

He indicated approximately 1,000 workers participated in the action on the first day, with the peak of the demonstration on December 30 involving around 10,000 motorbikes. KSPI has confirmed the protest will be limited to the Merdeka palace and will not extend to the DPR Building.

Workers’ demands regarding UMP

KSPI rejects the determination of the 2026 DKI Jakarta UMP of IDR 5,729,876 per month. Iqbal argues this figure is lower than the minimum wage in Jakarta’s surrounding areas, such as Bekasi and Karawang in West Java.

“It doesn’t make sense if the cost of living in Jakarta is lower than Bekasi Regency,” he stated.
