Aaron Judge Powers Team USA to Victory in World Baseball Classic Opener
HOUSTON – Aaron Judge launched a two-run home run in the first inning, and Brice Turang delivered a standout performance with three hits and four RBIs, leading Team USA to a dominant 15-5 win over Brazil in their opening game of the World Baseball Classic on Friday night at Houston’s Daikin Park.
Judge Makes an Immediate Impact
Judge, who was the first player to commit to the team last April, connected for his home run off Brazilian pitcher Bo Takahashi with one out and one runner on base. This early lead set the tone for the Americans’ offensive onslaught.
Turang Shines at the Plate
Brice Turang proved to be a key contributor, driving in four runs with a double to left field in the fifth inning, extending the U.S. Lead to 7-1. The Americans capitalized on Brazil’s pitching, drawing 17 walks and forcing them to throw a total of 221 pitches.
Ramirez Homers for Brazil
Despite the loss, Brazil showcased its own offensive talent, highlighted by Lucas Ramirez, who homered twice. With his father, 12-time All-Star Manny Ramirez, in attendance, Ramirez cut the U.S. Lead to 2-1 with a leadoff homer and later added a solo shot in the eighth, bringing the score to 8-5.
