FIFA Fan Festival Adjustments for the 2026 World Cup: New York and Seattle Opt for Modified Celebrations

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, preparations for the accompanying FIFA Fan Festival are underway across the host cities. Though, two U.S. Cities – New York and Seattle – have announced changes to their original plans for hosting the large-scale fan event, opting instead for alternative celebration models.

New York City’s Modified Fan Fest

New York City has restructured its World Cup events, implementing a Fan Fest at Liberty State Park with an entrance fee of $12 (approximately 210 Mexican pesos as of February 24, 2026).1 This represents a shift from a free, open-access festival to a ticketed event.

Seattle’s Decentralized Approach

Seattle has moved away from the concept of a single, massive FIFA Fan Fest in the Seattle Center. Instead, the city is adopting a “distributed model,” decentralizing celebrations across at least four main locations.2 These locations include:

  • Seattle Center: Hosting “Let’s Play SEA ’26 – World Soccer Fan Celebration” with big screens and family-friendly activities.
  • Pacific Place: An indoor event space featuring large-format LED screens, suitable for inclement weather.
  • Waterfront Park: A 20-acre public space offering activations and seaside experiences, supported by local football organizations.
  • Victory Hall in SODO: Presenting “Seattle Matchday Live,” with a giant screen and a celebratory atmosphere.

Rationale Behind Seattle’s Decentralization

Organizers estimate that approximately 750,000 people will visit Seattle during the World Cup.2 Multiplying event locations is intended to better manage the influx of fans and ease urban flow around match days. The goal is to bring the World Cup experience to more people, create a vibrant local atmosphere, and support local businesses and cultural spaces.

Seattle’s World Cup 2026 Match Schedule

Seattle will host six matches during the 2026 World Cup: four group stage matches, one Round of 32 match, and one Round of 16 match.3 The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, June 15, 2026: Belgium vs. Egypt – Group G
  • Friday, June 19, 2026: United States vs. Australia – Group D
  • Wednesday, June 24, 2026: Italy/Northern Ireland/Wales/Bosnia vs. Qatar – Group B
  • Friday, June 26, 2026: Egypt vs. Iran – Group G
  • Wednesday, July 1, 2026: Round of 32 – 1st Group G vs. 3rd Group A/E/H/I/J
  • Monday, July 6, 2026: Round of 16 – Winner Match 81 vs. Winner Match 82

Mexico could potentially play its Round of 32 match in Seattle if they finish third in Group A.3

The FIFA Fan Festival – A Global Event

The FIFA Fan Festival remains the central fan destination of the FIFA World Cup 2026 for both local communities and international fans.1 For the first time, the event will be held simultaneously in all 16 host cities across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.2
