WTT Düsseldorf: German Players Qualify & Wednesday’s Schedule

German Table Tennis Players Advance at WTT Feeder Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf. The WTT Feeder Düsseldorf (March 2nd to 6th) at the German Table Tennis Center (DTTZ) saw three German players – Elisa Nguyen, Lorena Morsch and Tom Schweiger – successfully qualify for the main draw. The first main round, featuring a German duel between Franziska Schreiner and Josephina Neumann, along with second-round matches and the opening games in the doubles competitions, is scheduled for Wednesday. The semi-finals in the singles competitions and the finals in the three doubles competitions will seize place on Friday.

Schweiger Remains Undefeated in Qualification

Tom Schweiger maintained an undefeated record throughout both qualifying rounds. Following his initial victory over Colombian Arcila, the Bavarian secured his group win with a confident win against Croatian Hencl. He continued his strong performance in the final elimination round, defeating Jann Mari Nayre (Philippines) without dropping a set. “I’m in good shape and I’m playing well in the league. Of course, there can be a few unpleasant opponents in the main draw, but in theory, there should be something against everyone,” said Schweiger. His opponent in the round of 32 is Brazilian Guilherme Teodoro, who plays for ASC Grünwettersbach in the Bundesliga.

Nguyen Prevails in Crucial Moment

Elisa Nguyen needed a strong finish in the third preliminary round singles to qualify for the main draw as the winner of group four. “Yesterday it didn’t go so well, but today I’m happy with my performance.” In the main draw, the Baden-Württemberg player will face Enisa Sadikovic from Luxembourg.

Wang Eliminated, Morsch Advances

Lisa Wang was defeated 3-0 in a German duel against Vivien Scholz (Luxembourg), resulting in her elimination and Scholz taking second place in the group. The Luxembourger had previously defeated Nguyen and too held a 2-1 record. Jamal Oudriss was also eliminated after two defeats on the first day of the tournament.

Lorena Morsch, the German U19 champion, won her third preliminary round game against English player Jasmine Wong after a win and a defeat the previous day, advancing to the main draw as the second-placed player in her group, where she will face English wildcard holder Mari Baldwin. “I’m quite happy with my two wins from the preliminary round. I just desire to play as well as I can in the main draw.”
