Microsoft is shaping its next hardware generation around a broader vision than a single traditional home console, revealing that Project Helix will encompass an entire product family. While a traditional single-device launch was once expected by many observers, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed to the BBC that the company is actively developing multiple hardware options under the project name.
Speaking about the upcoming hardware, Sharma stated in the BBC interview that Microsoft is working intensively on a great new generation and an entire family of devices while continuing to push performance boundaries. This hardware family approach aligns with earlier confirmations that the next-generation system will function as a hybrid of a console and a PC, allowing users to run both Xbox games and computer titles on their device. Furthermore, developer versions of the hardware are scheduled to reach creators next year, and Microsoft has previously announced an extensive partnership with AMD focused on developing multiple devices under the Xbox brand.
Project Helix Targets Multiple Performance Tiers and Budgets
The strategy behind Project Helix points toward offering multiple variants tailored to different performance tiers and budgets, echoing the approach taken with the current Series S and X models. At the same time, accessibility and cost remain central concerns as component prices rise. Sharma highlighted that manufacturers must find new ways to make hardware accessible to a broader audience, noting that Microsoft already raised current console prices by up to 150 dollars this year and introduced installment purchasing options.
Microsoft Will Reveal Device Specifications and Release Dates
Despite these revelations, exact specifications, pricing, and release dates for the individual devices within the family remain unconfirmed. It is not yet clear how many distinct models will ultimately be released or whether manufacturing permissions might extend to third-party hardware makers. Additional details regarding the hardware lineup are expected to be revealed by Microsoft in the coming months.
