Yacuiba Dentist Detained on Sexual Assault Allegations

A dental professional in Yacuiba, Bolivia, is currently in preventive detention following allegations of sexual assault against a patient. The incident reportedly occurred on February 17th, during a routine dental appointment.

Details of the Alleged Assault

According to Yoselín Visalla, Director of the Yacuiba Special Force to Fight Violence (FELCV), the 21-year-old victim visited the dentist’s office located on Ballivián and Charañez streets seeking treatment for a toothache. The victim alleges that after receiving anesthesia, she felt unwanted kisses and inappropriate touching. After the treatment, the dentist allegedly attempted to sexually assault her while asking her to sign a medical prescription.

The victim reportedly attempted to call for help, but the accused, identified only by his initials Edwin JCQ, allegedly increased the volume of a radio to prevent being overheard.

Ongoing Investigation

The FELCV is investigating the claims to determine the full extent of the alleged assault. The case has been brought to the attention of the Defensoría de la Ninez y Adolescencia (Defender of Childhood and Adolescence) and the Ministerio Público (Public Ministry).
