AMC+ Secures U.S. Streaming Rights to ‘Yaga’ Starring Hudson Williams

AMC+ has acquired the exclusive U.S. Streaming rights to the Canadian drama series Yaga, starring Hudson Williams in his first role following the success of Heated Rivalry. The eight-episode series, a Crave Original, will debut on AMC+ later this year, ahead of Williams’ return for Season 2 of Heated Rivalry.

A Contemporary Twist on Slavic Folklore

Based on the play by Kat Sandler, who also serves as writer and showrunner, Yaga reimagines the Slavic folk tale of Baba Yaga – traditionally a witch living in a hut on chicken legs – as a contemporary mystery thriller. The series is produced by Front Street Pictures and Blink49 Studios in partnership with Crave.

The Story Unfolds in a Coastal Town

Yaga follows Rapp (Noah Reid), a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park (Hudson Williams), the young heir to a powerful fishery. The investigation pits Rapp against local detective Carson (Clark Backo), university professor Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss), and a network of enigmatic suspects and hidden secrets.

Cast and Creative Team

The cast includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris, and Sam Krochmal, alongside Williams, Moss, Reid, and Backo. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay served as co-directors.

Kat Sandler, the creator and showrunner, described the series’ evolution, stating, “Yaga has evolved from myth to stage to my first greenlit series, reclaiming the wicked witch and reshaping her as an incendiary feminist antihero for our time.” Sandler added that the series reflects her love for “propulsive, accessible, dark, funny, and unapologetically bold” storytelling.
