ZDF and ARD’s “Streaming OS” Project to Bolster German Public Broadcasting

Germany’s public broadcasters, ZDF and ARD, are collaborating on “Streaming OS,” a project designed to create a shared technological foundation for their streaming platforms. The initiative, roughly two years in the making, aims to foster innovation and accessibility through an open-source approach, potentially impacting media landscapes beyond Germany.

Anke Pörksen, a member of ZDF’s governing body and State Secretary for Digitalization in Lower Saxony, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. “It is good that ZDF and ARD are working together in many different areas to produce an even higher quality and more fascinating offer for as many population groups as possible,” Pörksen stated. The joint effort is expected to accelerate technological development.
