Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed freezing the war at the current front line and launching negotiations to end the conflict following a meeting with U.S. special envoys in Norway, according to tv3.lv. Vladimir Putin has rejected the terms, demanding that Ukraine cede the entirety of the Donetsk region.
Frontline Defense and Strategic Risks in Donetsk
Zelenskyy explained this week that withdrawing Ukrainian troops from fortified cities in the Donetsk region would create severe security risks for neighboring areas. Ukrainian forces have built a strong defensive system in cities including Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Druzhkivka. Abandoning these positions would expose the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions to renewed Russian advancement.
Russian forces continue to target these urban centers with heavy aerial bombardments and FPV drones as frontal breakthroughs stall. During reporting in Kramatorsk, TV3 News journalist Ieva Vārna documented the destruction of a local church that had previously served as a distribution point for humanitarian aid and drinking water. Russian forces struck the historic building with two guided aerial bombs last Sunday, reducing it to rubble.

Kramatorsk Residents Defy Airstrikes as Curfew Tightens
Local residents remain defiant amid daily airstrikes. “Tomorrow we will come back again! While we are alive, we will help clear everything out here until the last!” Kramatorsk resident Ludmila told tv3.lv.
Eduards, a Kramatorsk pastor, surveyed the wreckage of his church with TV3 News, noting the immense blast wave that destroyed the historic structure. Daily aerial attacks continue across the Ukrainian-controlled parts of the Donetsk region, prompting stricter security measures.

Effective November 1, authorities have tightened the local curfew in response to the deteriorating security situation. The curfew now runs from 4:00 PM to 11:00 AM the following day, restricting residents to just four hours daily when they are permitted to leave their homes.
Moscow Demands Territory Surrender Before Ceasefire Talks Begin
The diplomatic stalemate centers on incompatible positions regarding territorial control. While Ukrainian leadership has signaled openness to an immediate ceasefire along current lines, Moscow insists that Kyiv surrender all remaining Ukrainian-held territory in the Donetsk oblast before talks can begin. U.S. special envoys have continued discussions with Ukrainian officials in Norway to evaluate diplomatic pathways, though no formal agreement on ceasefire terms has been reached.
