Zobens un Lemess 2026: Heavy Music and Living History Festival Returns to Vecumnieki

The annual “Zobens un Lemess” (Sword and Lemess) festival, a celebration of extreme music and living history, will seize place from June 12th to 14th, 2026, in Vecumnieki, Latvia, near Jaunā ezera (New Lake). Zobens un Lemess, established in 2015, offers a unique blend of music, historical reenactment, and educational lectures.

A New Location for 2026

Due to reconstruction at Bauskas pilskalna parks, the festival’s traditional location since 2018, “Zobens un Lemess” will be held in Vecumnieki for this year only. Organizers anticipate a return to Bauska pilskalns in 2027. Bauskas Dzīve reports the festival remains committed to the Zemgale region.

Festival Highlights and Program

The festival program includes concerts spanning various genres of heavy music – from black metal and death metal to doom metal and folk metal. Alongside the music, attendees can experience an “Old Village” featuring reenactors and craftsmen from the Baltic countries, as well as lectures and smaller performances. A new focus for 2026 will be stories of subcultures, exploring the history of Latvian metal music and alternative culture through conversations and documentary evidence.
