10,000 Degrees Seeks Board Members to Expand Educational Opportunities
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – March 18, 2026 – 10,000 Degrees, a California-based nonprofit organization, is actively recruiting new volunteer leaders to join its Board of Directors and Regional Advisory Boards. The organization focuses on increasing access to quality education and career opportunities for students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds.
Seeking Diverse Leadership
10,000 Degrees is looking for individuals with expertise in education, policy, and philanthropy. Ideal candidates will possess Bay Area influence, philanthropic reach, strong governance judgment, growth leadership experience, higher education or policy expertise, and/or lived experience that aligns with the experiences of 10,000 Degrees students. While California ties are preferred, applicants are not required to be California residents, but should demonstrate an understanding of the state’s education landscape.
National Expansion Following Significant Gift
This expanded recruitment effort comes after a transformational $42 million gift from MacKenzie Scott, the largest single donation in the organization’s history. 10,000 Degrees is broadening its reach beyond the Bay Area and seeking members from across the country with diverse backgrounds and a commitment to education equity.
Role of Board Members
Board members will play a crucial role in guiding the organization’s national growth strategy and ensuring its programs continue to deliver positive outcomes for students pursuing higher education. The organization currently serves over 16,000 students and families annually, including more than 12,000 high school students through its College Access Program and over 4,300 college students through its College Success Program. 10,000 Degrees currently operates in eight Bay Area counties and Utah.

For over 45 years, 10,000 Degrees has worked with more than 80,000 students, awarding over $113 million in scholarships. The organization aims to break the cycle of generational poverty and create lasting positive change in the lives of students and their communities. Students supported by 10,000 Degrees are accepted to 251 colleges and universities nationwide.
