BMW Reveals Lightweight 7 Protection Sedan
BMW introduced a pre-production concept of the 7 Protection, an armored variant based on the recently updated 7 Series limousine, Novinky reported. Unlike existing high-security models in the 7 Series and X5 lineups that offer maximum protection against machine gun fire and grenade blasts, the new model adopts a lighter and less conspicuous design approach for private and corporate clients who find heavy-duty armoring unnecessary.
The vehicle is built to the new BayB security standard, focusing its ballistic protection against common handgun calibers such as 9×19 mm and .44 Magnum. The exterior remains nearly indistinguishable from the standard 7 Series production model. Reduced armor weight allows the sedan to maintain driving dynamics close to those of an unarmored vehicle.

Materials and Performance Specifications
The protective structure relies on bulletproof glass and door panels that combine ballistic steel and fiber-reinforced composites. BMW installed identical protective materials beneath the panoramic sunroof, which appears standard from the outside while remaining completely covered from the interior. The rear bulkhead also provides ballistic resistance, Novinky reported.
Underneath the armor, the concept utilizes the M760e xDrive powertrain. A turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine pairs with an electric motor to deliver a total output of 443 kW and 800 Nm of torque. The display vehicle includes an exterior intercom system and an attack warning system.

Interior Luxury and Production Timeline
The cabin retains standard luxury features, including Smoke White Merino leather upholstery from the BMW Individual program and an M Anthracite Alcantara headliner. Power-operated window sunshades and a new rear-center console featuring an integrated table and cooling box complete the passenger compartment. BMW plans to add these comfort features to the standard 7 Series lineup in the second half of 2027.
The 7 Protection concept enters series production soon, joining the existing armored 7 Series lineup that offers VR9 protection with VPAM10 certification as optional equipment.
