2026 Tech Layoffs: Major Companies Cut Jobs Across Industry

Oracle and Canva Slash Workforces While Tech Layoffs Pass Two Hundred Thousand

Oracle drove the largest single workforce reduction of the year. The company disclosed in an annual financial filing on June 23 that it cut 21,000 jobs over a twelve-month period, which accounts for roughly 13 percent of its total workforce. The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce, Oracle stated in the filing. Canva implemented a separate major reduction, eliminating 22 percent of its staff—just over 1,200 employees—while merging product, growth, and platform teams. Canva is also looking to reduce subspecialisation, which could result in remaining employees taking on more responsibilities.

Squarespace and Dropbox Cut Staff to Restructure Engineering Teams

Squarespace reduced its workforce by 19 percent, cutting roughly 300 positions as website-building tools face disruption from emerging automated coding applications. The changes are intended to simplify how we operate, sharpen our priorities and enable the company to move faster as we position Squarespace for its next phase of growth, Jeff Seedman, a representative from Squarespace, told TechCrunch.

Cloud storage provider Dropbox cut 9 percent of its staff, affecting approximately 200 employees primarily across engineering, product, design, and general and administrative teams. Dropbox co-CEO Ashraf Alkarmi stated in an internal message that the changes target long-term product and growth priorities. Alongside the Dropbox restructuring, chief technology officer Ali Dasdan stepped down from his role.

Apple and Xbox Trim Hardware and Gaming Divisions

Apple reduced headcount within its Vision Group by at least 60 positions following the 2024 launch of the Vision Pro headset, which carried a starting price of $3,699. Apple also reduced staffing within its Intelligent Systems Experience group to adjust technical architecture for Siri. Within the gaming sector, Xbox eliminated 268 roles across Halo Studios and other first-party development teams, following earlier cuts of 1,600 employees in July. California Governor Gavin Newsom responded to the workforce contractions by unveiling a state monitoring tool intended to track artificial intelligence integration.

Additional Workforce Cuts Across Tech and Corporate Sectors

Netflix experienced its biggest round of layoffs since 2022 amid struggles to increase customer engagement and overall growth, with the bulk of the cuts affecting its product, tech, legal, and human-resources teams. Workday laid off around 140 employees from the Bay Area to trim its tech team. Airtable laid off a large part of its team on October 12, with owner Bending Spoons product leader Federico Simionato stating on X that the cuts were not due to worker abilities but a deep belief that small teams ship more and better, though the exact number of affected employees was not disclosed.
