Seven Deaths on Irish Roads Over Weekend Following Multiple Collisions
Seven people have died in road traffic incidents across Ireland over the weekend, with collisions occurring in counties Armagh, Meath, Waterford, and Galway. The incidents have prompted renewed calls for road safety and increased vigilance from authorities.
County Armagh Collision Claims Three Lives
Three people were killed in a three-vehicle collision on the Armagh Road in Moy, County Armagh, on Saturday evening. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) responded to a report of the crash at approximately 10:20 PM GMT. The collision involved a red BMW, a grey Volkswagen, and a white Audi.
Two men, aged 31 and 48, and a 23-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene. PSNI confirmed the details. Four other individuals sustained injuries, with three receiving ongoing medical treatment.
Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck stated that police arrived at the scene within 12 minutes and initiated CPR on several casualties. He described the scene as “challenging and tough” and expressed the community’s shock. The Armagh Road was closed overnight and reopened on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage.
Teenager Dies in Hit-and-Run in County Meath
In County Meath, a 16-year-old girl died after being struck by a car on the Slane Road in Navan on Saturday evening. Gardaí (Irish police) responded to the scene at approximately 8:20 PM. The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene.
The girl was treated at the scene before being transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where she was later pronounced deceased. A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident, and a car has been seized for forensic examination. He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Fatalities in County Waterford and Galway
Separately, two people in their 40s were killed in a collision in County Waterford on Saturday midday when their car and a van collided on the Tramore Road. A man in his 50s and a juvenile male traveling in the van were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
In County Galway, an 80-year-old woman died following a single-vehicle crash at Eyrecourt on Saturday night. Gardaí responded to the incident at approximately 8:15 PM. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to Portiuncula Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
