Harlem’s Central Park North to See New Mixed-Use Tower with Church and Residences

New renderings have been revealed for a proposed residential tower at 3–5 Central Park North in Harlem, Manhattan. Designed by MVMK Architecture, the project will combine a new church facility with 110 residential units and commercial space. The development site is located on the corner of 110th Street (Central Park North) and 5th Avenue, also known as Duke Ellington Circle, adjacent to the existing La Hermosa Church.

Project Details

The planned structure will yield approximately 110 residential units, a church with accompanying offices and a school, and commercial space. The building will also include 40 parking spaces. The property is also addressed as 5 West 110th Street.

Design and Architecture

The tower’s design features a distinctive massing composed of three interlocking, offset rectangular volumes. Each volume has a downward-sloping geometry, creating an asymmetrical appearance. The façade will be constructed with a reflective glass curtain wall and a grid of black mullions.

The central volume of the tower is rotated 45 degrees to face Duke Ellington Circle. The upper floors, intended for the most desirable residences, are oriented diagonally across Central Park toward Columbus Circle, maximizing park views.

Church Integration

Renderings of the church interior showcase extensive use of wood and stone, with large windows designed to maximize natural light. The multistory podium will follow the curved geometry of Duke Ellington Circle and will be topped with landscaped terraces.

Development Context

The project site currently houses several low-rise structures. The nearest subway stations are the 2 and 3 trains at the 110th Street–Malcolm X Plaza station.

Project Status

3–5 Central Park North is currently in the design phase, and a proposed construction timeline has not yet been announced.
