New Hampshire Weather: Snow, Rain, and Messy Travel Conditions Expected This Weekend
A break in the weather pattern is giving way to a system bringing snow, rain, and potentially slippery travel conditions to New Hampshire this weekend. Accumulating snow is likely across much of the state, with the highest amounts forecast for northern regions. A more active weather pattern is expected to continue into next week, with temperatures near or below average.
Current Conditions and Forecast
Early clouds are giving way to clearing skies and some sunshine this afternoon. High temperatures will reach the 40s, although an increasing breeze may make it sense colder. Winds will diminish tonight, with mostly cloudy skies and lows falling below freezing. Light snow is expected to develop toward early morning.
Sunday’s Weather: Snow and Rain
Snow will develop statewide on Sunday as the next weather system moves in. Southern areas are likely to see a transition to rain closer to midday, with accumulations limited to a slushy coating to an inch. North of Concord, snow will continue for several more hours into Sunday evening. Parts of the Lakes Region and areas further north are expected to experience slippery conditions from several inches of wet snow.
Monday and Beyond
Snow showers may linger late Sunday night into Monday, but any additional accumulation is expected to be light and primarily confined to higher elevations. Brighter skies are anticipated on Tuesday, but cooler, showery weather is likely to return Wednesday and Thursday.
Regional Snowfall Expectations
- Lakes Region and areas north of it: Several inches of wet snow, leading to slippery conditions.
- White Mountains (north of Plymouth, including Haverhill, Whitefield, and Lancaster): Potential for 6 inches or more, with higher elevations possibly receiving up to a foot of snow.
- Southern New Hampshire (Manchester, Portsmouth, and points south/west): A transition to rain is expected, resulting in only a slushy coating to an inch of accumulation.
Recent Snowfall
Northern New Hampshire recently received approximately three inches of snow last night in areas like Lancaster, Bethlehem, and Jefferson, which is positive news for ski resorts.
Travel Impacts
Travel impacts are expected to be limited today, but a medium impact is anticipated throughout Sunday as the snow continues. Black ice may be present on roads through the notches and in the North Country, so caution is advised.
