The Sagra del Pesce in Chioggia is set to return for its 87th edition, running from July 10 to July 19, 2025. The festival, which celebrates the local maritime culinary tradition, aims to build on the record-breaking 180,000 visitors who attended in 2025 by expanding its organizational infrastructure and logistics.
Logistics and Accessibility Enhancements
To manage the high volume of expected visitors, the municipality of Chioggia has implemented a reinforced mobility plan. A free shuttle service will operate from the Val da Rio area, with departures scheduled every 20 minutes. According to event organizers, the frequency of these runs will be doubled on Fridays and Saturdays to accommodate the peak influx of tourists.
The festival layout features seven gastronomic stands, including one dedicated exclusively to gluten-free options for celiacs. Additionally, three "cicchetterie" will be available, offering traditional Venetian-style snacks. The event is coordinated by the Fondazione DMO Chioggia Tourism in partnership with the Comune di Chioggia, with financial support from BCC Veneta and Motorclass Srl.
Opening Ceremony and Institutional Participation
The official inauguration is scheduled for July 10 at 6:15 p.m. in front of the Loggia dei Bandi. The opening ceremony will include institutional remarks from:
- Alberto Stefani, President of the Veneto Region
- Mauro Armelao, Mayor of Chioggia
- Simone Venturini, Mayor of Venice
- Riccardo Griguolo, Councilor for Tourism
Following the institutional greetings, the event will feature a performance by comedian Francesco Baruto, known as "Barutz," followed by the ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
Culinary Competitions and Entertainment
A focal point of the 10-day event is the "El Bocòn Pi Bòn" gastronomic competition, scheduled for July 14. During this contest, participating stands will compete to produce the best version of "seppe in tecia" (cuttlefish in sauce), a signature dish of Chioggia’s culinary heritage.
Beyond the food offerings, the festival maintains a nightly entertainment schedule. Starting at 9:30 p.m. each evening, Piazzetta Vigo will host free music and live performances. The entertainment program begins on opening night with an additional appearance by Barutz.
