UT Austin Achieves Top Rankings in US News & World Report

Austin, Texas – The University of Texas at Austin solidifies its academic reputation with highly-ranked programs in business, engineering, and computer science. The institution retains its number one position among Texas public universities and achieves a national ranking of seventh overall according to the 2026 US News & World report Best Colleges ranking. Moreover, the university ranks 30th nationally when considering both public and private institutions.

Of the 37 bachelor’s programs evaluated at UT, 24 appear among the top 10 universities nationwide.Six programs rank within the top five: accounting, finance, and marketing within the McCombs School of Business, as well as petroleum, chemical, and civil engineering at the Cockrell School of Engineering. Artificial intelligence, computer theory, and biomedical engineering also rejoined the top 10 this year. In total,32 programs are ranked number one in Texas.

UT boasts a total of 76 undergraduate and graduate programs appearing in the top 10 among public and private institutions. Graduate programme rankings were published in April.

the US News methodology assesses institutions based on their provision of adequate educational resources, student-faculty ratios, graduation and retention rates, the number of degrees awarded, and the success of graduates entering the job market with manageable debt and competitive starting salaries.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, which concluded in August, UT recorded new milestones, achieving a four-year graduation rate of 75.7% and a first-year retention rate of 97.1%. The university also awarded a record 15,963 degrees.

Beyond individual program rankings, UT remains the top university in Texas for veterans, ranking seventh nationally among public universities in this category. The university also ranks ninth nationally for innovation and features the fourth-best study abroad program.
