Bernadine and Toby Boulet are being honored by the university of Lethbridge during the Fall 2025 Convocation for their dedication to encouraging organ donation and saving lives.
For the first time,the university will give two honorary degrees at the same ceremony. this year, the Boulets will receive honorary Doctor of laws degrees on October 18, 2025.
University of Lethbridge Chancellor Terry Whitehead explains that an honorary Doctor of Laws is awarded by the university senate to people who have made outstanding contributions to society, especially in areas like public service, human rights, or community work.
“Bernadine and Toby have done so much, not only for our university with their time and support, but also by turning a terrible personal experience into something positive for society.It’s remarkable,” says Whitehead.
He says the university is honored to give them these degrees,and he’s especially pleased on a personal level,as he has known the Boulets for many years.
“I’ve known Bernadine since Grade 9, and Toby and I have both been on the university board for several years, so I consider them both close friends,” says Whitehead. “I admire them as people, athletes, and for being remarkable individuals. I was very excited to learn they were receiving honorary degrees.”
Bernadine shares that she and Toby learned about the honorary degrees some time ago but were asked to keep it a secret.
“It’s been an interesting experience, as when we first found out, it was a bit of a surprise,” says Bernadine.
