FARGO – The homecoming for a former fargo Shanley baseball player critically injured in a golf cart accident in May is just around the corner.
Organizers of Boden Meier’s fundraiser have been blown away by the support leading up to the homecoming.
Meier’s Lend A Hand has raised nearly $100,000 in donations from the community ahead of his return home on Nov. 12. The Lend A Hand will close Nov. 3.
Meier suffered a brain bleed from the May accident.
The Meier family has already made changes to their home, such as adding ramps, to accommodate Boden.
Meier was in his freshman season with the Iowa Western Community College baseball team when he was involved in the accident. he graduated from Shanley High School in 2024, having played baseball, football and hockey, and was also a pitcher for the Fargo Post 2 American Legion program.
Fargo’s McNamara Named National School Counselor of the Year
Ryan McNamara, a school counselor at Fargo North High school, received the prestigious National School Counselor of the Year award from the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). The announcement came on January 27, 2024, recognizing McNamara’s dedication and innovative approach to student support.
McNamara has served as a counselor at Fargo North for the past eight years. He is known for implementing extensive counseling programs that focus on academic development, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness. His initiatives include peer mentoring programs, mental health awareness campaigns, and individualized support plans for students facing various challenges.
“Ryan is a true advocate for students,” said Dr. Rupak Gandhi, Superintendent of Fargo Public Schools. “He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every student has the resources and support they need to succeed. This national recognition is a testament to his hard work and commitment.”
The ASCA award highlights school counselors who demonstrate a commitment to promoting student success through counseling programs.Nominees are evaluated based on their innovative practices, leadership skills, and contributions to the counseling profession.
McNamara expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of collaboration in school counseling. “This award isn’t just for me; its for the entire team at Fargo North, including teachers, administrators, and fellow counselors who work tirelessly to support our students,” he stated.
He will be honored at a gala in Orlando, Florida, this summer. The Fargo community and Fargo Public Schools are celebrating McNamara’s achievement and the positive impact he has on the lives of countless students.
