Mariners Secure Josh Naylor with $92.5 Million Deal

just two weeks after the world Series,we have the frist major free-agent signing of MLB’s off-season. The Seattle Mariners reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with first baseman Josh Naylor on Monday. The Mississauga, ont.,native was acquired by the M’s at the July trade deadline – and the pairing proved perfect down the stretch and into the postseason.

Now, Naylor gets the chance to settle into one spot after playing for three organizations in the last 13 months.Meanwhile, Seattle general manager Justin Hollander addresses a key piece of off-season business early.

Here’s a closer look at the signing:

Naylor and the Mariners have officially agreed to a five-year, $92.5-million contract with a full no-trade clause, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

it’s hard to gauge what the market for Naylor looked like,as this deal came together before MLB’s Winter Meetings and before free agency really heated up. The Cincinnati Reds, who reportedly tried to acquire Naylor at the July trade deadline, could have been a logical fit, given their need for a power-hitting first baseman.
