Utah to Repeal Ban on State Employee Collective Bargaining

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s legislature plans to repeal a recent law that bans state employees from collective bargaining during Tuesday’s special session. However, this doesn’t mean the legislature is finished with efforts to reform the state’s union policies.

The legislature’s move to repeal the law comes before voters even had a chance to weigh in. Earlier this year, over 300,000 signatures – twice the number needed – were gathered to put the issue on the 2026 ballot.

Jessica Stauffer, president of the local chapter of Communication Workers of America and a member of the Protect Utah Workers Coalition, told Inside Sources she’s pleased the legislature is taking action to repeal the law.
