Dr. Henning grüll Receives Funding too Advance Long-Acting HIV Treatment Research

Currently, neutralizing antibodies show promise in treating and preventing HIV infection. However, these manufactured proteins require frequent administration through infusions or injections, even wiht their relatively long half-life. Dr. Grüll’s research focuses on developing strategies to enable the body to produce its own antiviral antibodies,offering a possibly more convenient and long-lasting therapeutic approach.
His work centers on utilizing adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) as a delivery system. AAVs have the unique ability to introduce gene sequences into the body and maintain sustained, high-level production of the encoded proteins with a single administration. Dr. Grüll is investigating how AAVs can be harnessed to deliver the genetic instructions for producing highly effective antibodies against HIV.
