## A 100-ton mountain of fat causes problems in the sewers in London. Now ther is a warning against extensive damage and huge costs.
A giant fat rock of around 100 tonnes is clogging the sewers in northern London, reports BBC.
According to Thames Water, the mass consists of grease, oil and wet wipes. It was discovered deep down in the drain and poses a critically importent threat to the sewer system.
“We’re seeing more and more of these blockages, and they’re getting bigger and more frequent,” says a spokesperson for Thames Water.
The company warns that if the fat rock is not removed, it could cause extensive damage and lead to huge costs for repairs. They are now urging people to be more careful about what they flush down the toilet and pour down the drain.
“Please don’t put oil, grease or wet wipes down the drain. These things can cause huge problems for our sewer system,” says Thames Water.
the finding highlights a growing problem in London and other cities around the world, where aging sewer systems are struggling to cope with the increasing amount of waste being flushed down the drain.

Oil and cooking fat cause over 20,000 clogged pipes each year, and account for close to 30 percent of all sewer blockages.
In December and January, the problem increases sharply because of all the christmas food.
The mountain of fat has been nicknamed the “grandson” of the infamous Whitechapel lump of fat from 2017 – a 130-tonne, 250-meter monster that was on display at the Museum of London at the time.
