An Elkton woman is in custody and facing a first-degree murder charge following the death of an 84-year-old man in Rockingham County. The incident occurred at a residence in the 1600 block of Lawson Lane in Elkton on January 4th.

Details of the Incident

According to Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson, deputies responded to a call reporting a domestic disturbance at approximately 7:35 a.m. [2] Upon arrival, authorities discovered Wilfred T. Shifflett, 84, who was subsequently transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Suspect and Charges

Tabitha N. Taylor, 38, of Elkton, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Shifflett’s death. Sheriff Hutcheson confirmed that Taylor and Shifflett were cohabitants but were not related. [2]

Examination Status

The Sheriff’s Office has not yet released details regarding the manner of death. Taylor is currently being held at the rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail.[2]
