Jordan Larson Announces Retirement, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Volleyball Excellence
Four-time Olympic medalist and celebrated volleyball icon, Jordan Larson, has announced her forthcoming retirement at the end of the current season, marking the conclusion of a distinguished professional career. The 39-year-old athlete, currently a player and co-owner for LOVB Nebraska, shared the news on Friday, expressing gratitude for her journey and excitement for the future of the sport.
Larson’s final season is underway with LOVB Nebraska, a founding member of League One Volleyball, which is currently in its second professional season. Fans will have the opportunity to witness Larson’s final matches, culminating in the season finale on April 4th.
“I still love the game immensely,” Larson stated, reflecting on her decision. “As I’ve gotten older, there’s more pieces that come with it. I’m living on house money, every day is an absolute blessing. … It seems like the time to celebrate what volleyball is doing in the state and how we can continue to grow the sport.”
Born and raised in Hooper, Nebraska, Larson’s impact on volleyball extends far beyond her home state. She captained the U.S.National Team to its historic first Olympic gold medal in 2021, delivering a performance for the ages in Tokyo. Named MVP and Best Outside hitter at the games, Larson’s decisive kill secured the gold, cementing her place in Olympic history.
Larson stands as one of only three volleyball players globally to achieve the remarkable feat of winning four Olympic medals.Her collection includes silver medals from the 2012 and 2024 Olympic games, and a bronze medal from the 2016 Olympics. Prior to her international success, Larson honed her skills at the University of Nebraska, contributing to a Division I national championship victory in 2006, following a runner-up finish in 2005.
League One volleyball (LOVB), which debuted last year, represents a new era in professional volleyball. The league’s launch was fueled by over $100 million in funding from private equity and high-profile investors, including Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn and NBA star Kevin Durant, signaling a meaningful investment in the sport’s future.
