“A few idiots completely ruined it for the rest”
Chantal has been presenting the talent show since 2019 and will return to her role next season. While making this season, the abuses of a number of years ago were at certain times in the back of her mind. “During the recordings I sometimes felt a flash of anger coming up,” the presenter explains.
She got that feeling when she saw young participants enter the stage. “Then I thought: how could you possibly think of approaching those girls the wrong way,” says Chantal, who thinks back on the transgressive behavior. “They are already so vulnerable by appearing on TV.”
Chantal thought it was terrible that the program had to be canceled due to the events. “I know that 98 percent of employees create this program with the very best intentions, then and now.” She calls it ‘still frustrating’ that a number of people crossed the line in such a way at the time. “A few idiots have completely ruined it for the rest.”
The presenter is happy about that The Voice of Holland returns again, but emphasizes that it was necessary that it was not shown on TV for a number of years. “If we had come back earlier, it would not have been respectful to the victims.” According to her, there is now enough time in between.
It was previously announced that the final of The Voice of Holland was pre-recorded. Chantal did not agree that the viewer played no role in the final and put a stop to it:
