The historic Gran Carnivale Portuense is set to invigorate the town of Portomaggiore wiht its vibrant parades and festivities this February. Marking its 41st edition,this beloved annual event promises a spectacular display of creativity,community spirit,and joyful celebration for all ages.

Residents and visitors can look forward to two captivating parades scheduled for Sundays, February 8th and 15th, both commencing at 2:30 PM. The colorful procession of allegorical floats will wind its way through the heart of Portomaggiore, following the customary route through the town center. spectators can anticipate a delightful shower of sweets, toys, confetti, and oversized stuffed animals as the floats pass by.
Carnival Hub: Piazza giovanni XXIII
Piazza Giovanni XXIII will serve as the central hub of the Gran Carnivale Portuense, transformed into a lively gathering place with an array of food stands offering local delicacies and a dedicated stage for performances and entertainment. A special “baby amusement park” will also be set up in the municipal square,providing fun and engaging activities for the youngest carnival-goers.
The Golden Mask Competition
A highlight of the carnival is the traditional “Golden Mask” competition, taking place on Sunday, February 15th. This event showcases the artistry and inventiveness of participants, with an award ceremony recognizing the most stunning and creative costume.
Evening Festivities: columbus Carnival Party
For adults seeking a nighttime celebration, the second edition of the “Columbus Carnival Party” will be held at “Bar Grillo” on Saturday, February 14th, starting at 7:00 PM. This masked party offers a unique possibility to continue the carnival spirit into the evening.
Community Collaboration
The Gran Carnivale Portuense is a testament to the strong community spirit of Portomaggiore. The event is organized by the Parish of Santa Maria Assunta of Portomaggiore, with the generous support of the Comune (Town Council), Pro Loco, and the National Association of Fire brigades. Councilor Gian Luca Roma expressed gratitude to Marco Mercatelli, the carnivalS “Patron,” along with the dedicated volunteers, local farmers, traders, businesses, associations, police forces, and sponsors who contribute to the event’s success.
