Swedish Skiers Make their Mark on the World Cup

Swedish cross-country skiers are having a strong season, with athletes like Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson consistently ranking among the top performers on the World Cup circuit.

The recent 10km freestyle race saw 25-year-old Andersson narrowly missing the podium, finishing fifth just seven seconds behind third place. Despite the close call, Andersson remains optimistic, focusing on learning from the competition and preparing for the upcoming classic mass start event.

“A bit of a shame that I didn’t have what was required all the way in. But I get to take with me what was good today and I’m looking forward to the classic mass start race on Sunday,” she shared after the race.

Meanwhile, Karlsson, making her return to the World Cup after a month-long hiatus due to a foot injury, finished seventh. While she admitted the race wasn’t her best, she recognized the positive steps forward.

"It was a crap race. Nothing to hang on the Christmas tree,” Karlsson admitted, but she added, “It was difficult from the start, I think. I think I’m tense all the way and have had a tense feeling in my body since I woke up this morning. I didn’t really recognize myself. I don’t usually go and brace myself like that. I hope it has been removed now.”

These recent races highlight the competitive nature of the World Cup circuit, with even the smallest margins proving decisive. While Andersson and Karlsson’s performances might not have resulted in podium placements, they demonstrate the resilience and determination these athletes bring to each competition.

As the season unfolds, expect to see these Swedish stars continuing to push their limits and vying for top spots on the World Cup stage.
