Rebecca Rice, a senior at benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, is
integrating her passion for architecture with a deep commitment to her
Catholic faith thru the college’s Ministry programme. Rice is on track to
graduate this spring, prepared for a career and continued spiritual growth.

A Foundation of Faith and Community

Rice, originally from fairfax, Virginia, chose Benedictine College because
it offered the same faith-integrated learning surroundings she experienced in
high school. “I wanted a college that could offer those same things – where
there was a shared foundation of faith throughout all my classes,” she
explained. She found a vibrant community and a supportive atmosphere that
resonated with stories she’d heard from her older siblings, both Benedictine
alumni.

Leading Others to Christ through OCIA

For the past two years, Rice has served as an OCIA (Order of Christian
Initiation of Adults) team coordinator. This role has been a significant
blessing, allowing her to witness peers encountering christ and entering the
Catholic Church. Under her involvement, the program experienced record
numbers, with 26 students welcomed into full communion with the Catholic
Church last spring.

“My experience with OCIA has been the biggest blessing of my college
experience,” Rice said. “God has given me such supportive friendships on my
OCIA team. I’ve had the opportunity to work with the chaplains and the
ministry leadership team and been able to walk with students as they grow in
their relationship with christ and discover the beauty and truth of the
Catholic faith.”

Balancing Academics and Spiritual Growth

Rice’s involvement extends beyond ministry. As an architecture major, she
appreciates the investment her professors have in her success, both
academically and personally. Benedictine College has provided her with
opportunities to develop leadership and administrative skills, as well as
deepen her understanding of and ability to share her faith.
