Franck Proust: State Signal Sparks Investigation

The president of Nîmes métropole, Franck Proust, accompanied by senator LR Laurent Burgoa, had a meeting this Tuesday in Paris with Philippe Tabarot, Minister of Transport. One subject was at the heart of the discussions: the Nîmes Western Bypass (CONIM).

According to the teams of the right and center candidate in Nîmes, the two parties agreed on the interest of prioritizing the southern section of the project. The latter must connect, over approximately two kilometers, the A9 to the RD40 (route de Sommières) and appears essential to improve traffic conditions and access to the area.

« This development will contribute to improving the safety and living conditions of residents of the RN106 when crossing the Nîmes metropolitan area.explains Franck Proust’s team. The president of Nîmes Métropole notably put forward several priority arguments: opening up businesses in the Saint-Césaire industrial zone, improving access to an establishment of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS), as well as the comfort of users and the 7,000 staff of the Nîmes University Hospital.

« Finally, this infrastructure will constitute a major contribution to improving the place given to active modes and developing more efficient public transport. », Adds his team.

This meeting was prepared in conjunction with Christophe Rivenq, mayor and president of Alès Agglomération, to the extent that this section will also benefit users from the north of the department. The flows coming from the west of Nîmes, which today merge with those from the north on the ring road, should thus be reduced upstream, particularly for heavy goods vehicles.

According to our information, discussions also focused on the creation of a third platform track at the Nîmes-Pont-du-Gard TGV station. A common desire emerged to quickly find a financing solution allowing travelers to travel more efficiently between this station and that of Nîmes-Centre, without leaving the railway enclosures.
