As icy temperatures grip the region, residents are urged to stay vigilant about fire safety. A recent report from the regional communications service revealed a chilling trend: a surge in fire incidents since the start of the heating season.

Deputy Head of the Emergency Situations Department, Duman Daleshov, emphasized the alarming statistics. Over 139 fires have struck since the heating season commenced, tragically resulting in 11 deaths, nine injuries, and six cases of carbon monoxide poisoning.

"The stark reality is that many of these devastating incidents are preventable," Daleshov stated during a press conference. "It is crucial for both individuals in their homes and businesses open to the public to prioritize fire safety measures."

The leading causes behind these fires, according to the report, are easily avoidable mistakes:

• Faulty or improvised heating devices: Use appliances solely as intended by manufacturers. Never utilize makeshift heating solutions or overloaded electrical outlets.
• Improper stove operation: Stay diligent when using cook stoves and fireplaces. Ensure proper ventilation and never leave these appliances unattended.

• Damaged wiring and gas leaks: Regularly inspect your home’s electrical system. Address any frayed wires or exposed connections immediately.

For businesses and organizations open to the public, strict fire safety regulations are in place:

• Emergency lighting: Ensure adequate emergency lighting throughout the building, especially in areas with gathered crowds.
• Flammable materials: Prohibit the storage of flammable gas cylinders and liquids in sales areas.

• Clear evacuation routes: Keep hallways, stairwells, and exits unobstructed at all times, free from unnecessary obstructions.

• Children’s safety: Restrict entertainment areas for children to upper floors, ensuring accessibility during emergencies.
