Almost one in four actively used smartphones is an iPhone, which is an impressive mark. Google is still a long way from that.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that the Pixel series is gradually growing and sales can be increased every year. This is reflected in the market shares of sales, but also in the statistics on “active” smartphones.
In the latest statistics, which the analysts from Counterpoint Research published, underlines the unimportance of some well-known smartphone OEMs and at the same time the success of Google’s stability.
Since the introduction of the Pixel 6 series, Google has clearly set an example. From now on there will be more consistency, the Pixel series will be released annually with a fixed portfolio and in the future always with an in-house Tensor chipset.
Google has gained trust among customers and achieved measurable market share in the period from Pixel 1 to Pixel 10. Google is now almost in the top 10, currently in eleventh place. Behind many big names, but also in front of well-known brands like OnePlus and Sony.
At the top there is a clear lead for Apple, here customers are loyal and keep iPhones longer, which probably ensures a larger share of active devices. It’s not quite as strong with Samsung. In contrast to the sales figures, there are significantly fewer actually active smartphones compared to Apple.
Xiaomi leads the pursuers, the gap to Oppo and Vivo is clear. Transsion is strong in Africa, even ahead of Huawei worldwide. What is impressive is that despite the virtual ban in the West, Huawei is still quite far ahead in these statistics. Honor, formerly a Huawei brand, has risen sharply and overtaken Motorola.
Each of the top eight smartphone manufacturers will have an active installed base of over 200 million devices in 2025, collectively accounting for over 80% of the global active installed base. Only Apple and Samsung have surpassed the one billion active device mark.
