With no time to rest in terms of the distribution of trophies, since the one for the World Grand Prix went to Zhao Xintong last Sunday, the world snooker circuit has once again elucidated a title this Wednesday. It has been the one of the Championship League not computable for the ranking and has ended up in the showcases of Mark Selby.

Playing at home, in Leicester, the English player has won his third title of the season, all of them achieved in a period of just three months after winning the Champion of Champions in November and the UK Championship in December. Selby has reissued the triumphs in this non-ranking Championship League that he already achieved in 2024 and 2025 for a third title in a row.

The Englishman has once again demonstrated that he is good at the format of short matches, best of five frames, with a league between the seven winners of the previous groups. The top four qualified for the semifinals, before a final that this Wednesday closed the two days of competition. Selby, Elliot Slessor, Tom Ford and Matthew Selt on the English side and Si Jiahui, Wu Yize and Zhang Anda On the Chinese side, they were the seven winners of previous groups who competed in the final group.

The group stage has left leader to a Slessor with five wins and only one defeat, 3-1 against Tom Ford. Selby followed with four victories after losing against Slessor himself (3-1) and against Ford (same result), while Si Jiahui and Wu Yize, both with three wins and three losses, have left the aforementioned Ford out of the semifinals due to difference in frames.

Thus, the semifinals have left the Wu Yize’s 3-2 decider victory against Slessor, while Selby had no problems beating Si Jiahui 3-0. Wu and Selby met in a final at the end of this Wednesday in which the Englishman dominated the first table, has signed a great 128 in the second and has resisted the third frame won by Wu to win by a final 3-1.

This way, Selby extends his great form to face the final stretch of the season. From February 17 to 22, the Players Championship will take place with the sixteen best players of the campaign. Then, the Welsh Open, the World Open and the Tour Championship will lead to the World Cup at the Crucible.
