waterford Man Pleads Guilty to €10,000 VAT Deception Scheme

Waterford City, Ireland – A man from Waterford has pleaded guilty to 17 counts of deception, resulting in approximately €10,000 in losses for his victim. Robert Evoy,residing at 25 Military Barracks,Waterford City,appeared before Judge Eugene O’Kelly at Waterford Courthouse to enter his plea.

The court heard that between September 2022 and November 2024, Evoy deceived the victim into making 17 separate payments related to fraudulent Value Added Tax (VAT) returns submitted to Revenue. These actions are in violation of section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act of 2001.

During the proceedings, Evoy’s defense counsel requested a probation and welfare report be prepared before the sentencing hearing. The counsel further stated that evoy has been struggling with meaningful alcohol and gambling issues.

Judge O’Kelly granted permission for the readiness of the report. evoy was remanded on bail, with the case scheduled to be revisited on April 15th for sentencing.
