Limited offers for MI opponents

Tech giant Google has begun offering compensation and voluntary severance to select employees at its global business organization (GBO) in the United States. Such a step is taken in response to employee dissatisfaction with the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the company.
According to the information published by Business Insider, this program will apply to certain positions in GBO units in the United States. In an internal memo released Feb. 10, the company’s chief commercial officer, Philip Schindler, informed employees that a “good program,” also known as a “stock buyout,” or voluntary severance offer, was available for some vacancies.
Strategic AI priority and employee concerns
Schindler admitted that despite the company’s strong position at the beginning of the year, the situation is very dynamic and competitive. He emphasized that every GBO employee must be fully committed to the company’s mission, especially given the priority set by MI. Employees must be fully engaged and ready to use AI to achieve even better results.
However, the CFO admitted that not all employees will be satisfied with the pace of work set by the company. For those who do not like their current workload or wish to terminate their employment, Google offers to voluntarily leave with appropriate compensation.
Program Scope and Exclusions
This program is designed for specific positions at GBO USA, including employees working in solution development, sales, corporate development and other industries. Not all employees of business departments will have access to this program.
Schindler said large sales departments in the US and other positions directly related to customer service will not be included in the program. As Google’s top management explained, this was done to minimize potential inconvenience to customers.
Previous similar cases in the company
This is not the first time that Google has offered its employees a similar voluntary exit program. Similar initiatives have also been implemented in other structural units of the company.
In June, for example, some US employees were offered share buybacks that coincided with the introduction of a stricter back-to-the-office policy. In October, YouTube employees were also offered a stock buyout as part of the reorganization. Last year, several Google units warned telecommuters they could be fired if they didn’t show up to the nearest office at least three times a week. In parallel, Google also pays the salaries of AI engineers for a year after they leave to prevent them from moving to competitors.
