The technology of the Swiss company is currently being tested on the first track, and it is also dealing with the effect on the upper.
French state-owned railways SNCF is another organization that will begin testing electricity generation in normal operation using photovoltaic panels placed between the tracks.
It has agreed to install the technology with the Swiss company Sun-Ways, which is already testing this technology on the track at the Buttes station in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel.
SNCF announced this in a press release, but has not yet indicated on which section the tests will take place.
Sun-Ways has been operating a small photovoltaic power plant in the railway yard since April last year. The company placed 48 panels on approximately 100 meters. The power plant’s output is 18 kWp, it is supposed to produce around 16 thousand kWh annually. The line is in normal operation, around thirty trains pass through the panels daily at a speed of 90 km/h.
They are also testing solar panels in the railway yard in other countries, a Swiss start-up was the first in the world to install panels in a track with normal operation. They are very easy to install and remove.
The trial operation is also intended to show whether, for example, the installed panels do not worsen the condition of the railway top itself. SNCF in detail describes his plans here.
