Santo Domingo 2026: Table Tennis Pavilion Renovation Nears Completion

Preparations for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled to capture place in Santo Domingo from July 24 to August 8, 2026, are progressing with the near completion of renovations to the table tennis pavilion. The facility, originally built for the 2003 Pan American Games, is undergoing upgrades to meet international standards and accommodate the upcoming tournament.

Facility Upgrades

Recent renovations have focused on modernizing the table tennis pavilion, ensuring it is equipped to host high-level competition. Key improvements include the installation of modern LED lighting and upgrades to service areas, offices, and VIP sections. Exterior areas are also being improved.

Engineer Wander Fulcar, overseeing the renovation work, stated that the pavilion is “almost ready” for handover. Work is underway to air condition offices and service rooms, and to complete sanitary facilities.

International Standards Met

Following a recent inspection by international technicians, minor adjustments were made to address observations, including luminaire changes. Engineer Fulcar confirmed that these corrections are “minimal” and are being addressed promptly.

Delivery Timeline

The renovation team anticipates delivering the completed facility to the organizing committee by March or April 2026.

Part of a Larger Sports Complex

The table tennis pavilion is part of the Parque Mirador del Este complex, which also includes facilities for archery, field hockey, soccer, gymnastics, handball, weightlifting, and tennis. A new skating rink is also under construction within the park. All these venues will be utilized for competitions and training during the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Games Overview

The 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games will commemorate the centenary of Centro Caribe Sports and are expected to draw over 6,000 athletes competing in 40 sports, 56 disciplines, and 64 modalities. [JCC 2026 Official Website]
