Wabash College Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Westminster

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Wabash College volleyball team battled back from an early deficit but ultimately fell to Westminster (Mo.) 3-2 in a tightly contested nonconference match Sunday afternoon at Chadwick Court.

The Blue Jays claimed the victory with set scores of 25-19, 13-25, 21-25, 25-23, and 15-13. The match featured 26 tie scores and six lead changes.

Match Highlights

Wabash (2-4) nearly erased a late deficit in the fourth set and rallied from a five-point hole in the fifth before Westminster (13-4) secured the final two points to close out the victory.

Westminster controlled the opening set, hitting .560 with 16 kills and only two errors to win 25-19.

Wabash responded emphatically in the second set, winning 25-13. The Little Giants hit .391 with 12 kills against three errors, capped by a block by Bawibawi Thang.

The Little Giants carried their momentum into the third set, winning 25-21 behind 14 kills and a .360 attack percentage.

Westminster answered in the fourth, building an early lead and ultimately winning 25-23 after a kill by Charlie Haas and a service ace by Brady Sickles.

In the final set, Westminster raced to a 10-5 lead. Wabash rallied to cut the deficit to 11-10, but Westminster secured the final two points for a 15-13 win.

Key Statistics

Wabash finished with 53 kills and a .284 attack percentage, while Westminster countered with 56 kills and a .289 hitting mark. Wabash had 12 team blocks compared to Westminster’s eight.

Bawibawi Thang led Wabash with 16 kills and hit .333, adding 22 digs. Zev Wolverton contributed 13 kills on a .385 clip with three service aces and five total blocks. Shad Wilson added 15 kills and hit .300, while Matthew Stitle directed the offense with 49 assists.

Derrick Turner led Westminster with 22 kills on .385 hitting, including seven in the fifth set. Brady Sickles added 10 kills, and Charlie Haas chipped in seven.

Wabash opens Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League play on February 20 with a road match at the University of Olivet at 7 p.m.
