Raiders Add Matt Robinson to Klint Kubiak’s Coaching Staff

The Las Vegas Raiders are continuing to shape their coaching staff under fresh head coach Klint Kubiak, announcing the hiring of Matt Robinson as the team’s defensive backs coach. Robinson joins the Raiders after spending the past five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and was recently with the New York Giants.

Robinson’s Background

Robinson, 32, was initially hired by New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh this offseason to serve as an assistant defensive line coach. Prior to that, he was the outside linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens under Harbaugh last season. He has a total of five years of NFL coaching experience, all with the Ravens.

Familiarity with the Raiders’ Defensive Coordinator

A key factor in the Raiders’ interest in Robinson is his prior working relationship with new Las Vegas defensive coordinator Rob Leonard. The two coaches worked together on the Baltimore Ravens staff in 2022.

A Step Up for a Young Coach

This move represents a promotion for Robinson, elevating him from an assistant position coach to a full position coach role. Kubiak is assembling a staff of young coaches, and Robinson fits that mold.

Previous Success with the Ravens

During his time with the Ravens, Robinson was part of a defensive unit that consistently ranked among the league’s best. In 2024, the Ravens’ defense allowed the fewest rush yards per game (80.1) and yards per rush (3.6) in the NFL. In 2023, Baltimore’s defensive front contributed to a league-leading 60 sacks.
