House Fire in Kristiansand, Norway Leaves One Missing
A house in Kristiansand, Norway, was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of Monday, February 16, 2026. Authorities are currently searching for the homeowner, who remains unaccounted for.
Fire Reported and Contained
The first report of the fire was received by police at 3:35 a.m. Local time. According to Operations Manager Rune Tallaksen of the Sørvest police district, the fire was contained within half an hour, but the house was fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews then focused on damage control.
Search for Homeowner Underway
Police have interviewed witnesses but have been unable to contact the owner of the property. Next of kin have been notified, as of 10:53 a.m. Local time.
Extent of Damage
The house has been completely destroyed, leaving only the foundation wall intact. Jens Helge Habbestad, head of operations in Bømlo Fire and Rescue, stated to the newspaper Sunnhordland that the structure is unsafe for examination until the fire service deems it so.
Investigation Ongoing
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation. Police are awaiting clearance from the fire service before they can begin a thorough examination of the site.
