The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $1.9 million through the 2028-29 season, as announced by General Manager Eric Tulsky via the team’s official website.

Bussi’s Impact and Rapid Ascent

Acquired on waivers from the Florida Panthers on October 5, 2025, Bussi quickly established himself as a key player for the Hurricanes. In 27 games this season, he boasts a remarkable record of 23-3-1, accompanied by a 2.16 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage according to the Hurricanes. His impressive performance includes two shutouts and a franchise-record-tying nine consecutive wins between October 30 and December 19.

Bussi has rapidly ascended the NHL record books, becoming the fastest goaltender to achieve 10, 15, and 20 wins. He currently ranks tied for third in the NHL in wins (23) and second in the league in goals-against average (2.16, minimum 18 games) as reported by the team.

Prior to joining the Hurricanes, Bussi honed his skills in the American Hockey League (AHL), appearing in 111 career games with the Providence Bruins, where he achieved a 63-31-13 record with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. He was also recognized as an AHL All-Rookie Team selection in 2022-23 according to the team. Bussi’s collegiate career at Western Michigan University saw him post a 46-25-5 record with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
