Terrorism Charges Filed in Taylor Swift Concert Plot in Vienna

Vienna, Austria – Austrian public prosecutors have filed terrorism-related charges against a 21-year-old man accused of planning an attack on one of Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna in August 2024. The planned attacks prompted the cancellation of three dates on Swift’s Eras Tour.

Plot Details and Allegations

Prosecutors allege the defendant, identified by Austrian media as Beran A., declared allegiance to the Islamic State group by sharing propaganda material and videos online. He is accused of obtaining instructions for constructing a shrapnel bomb using triacetone triperoxide, a substance commonly used by IS, and of producing a small quantity of the explosive.

According to prosecutors, the defendant also made multiple attempts to illegally purchase weapons outside of Austria and smuggle them into the country.

The criminal case against the suspect will proceed in Wiener Neustadt, a town near Vienna. He remains in custody.

International Collaboration and Intelligence

The disruption of the plot involved intelligence sharing with the United States. Then-White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby stated in August 2024 that the U.S. Shared information with Austrian partners to help prevent the threat to Swift’s concerts. ABC7 News
