Country Star Michael English Shares Details of Recent Heart Attack, Returns to Stage

Country music singer Michael English, 46, recently revealed he suffered a mild heart attack even as traveling to a gig in Waterford. The singer, known for performing around 300 shows annually, has shared his experience, emphasizing the importance of health check-ups and listening to one’s body.

What Happened?

English recounted the events leading up to the heart attack, explaining that he initially felt “a little bit low on batteries” and not “firing on all cylinders.” While en route to the performance with his manager, Bryan Buckley, he asked Buckley to take over driving as he felt increasingly unwell. He then lost consciousness for approximately 20 minutes.

Medical Care and Recovery

Buckley promptly drove English to University Hospital Waterford, where he received initial care. He also expressed gratitude to the Hermitage Clinic in Dublin for their continued support. English stated he is now feeling “much better” and has been cleared to return to performing, having already completed three nights of shows in Mullingar.

A Wake-Up Call and Future Health Plans

The experience has been a “wake-up call” for the singer, who admitted he never anticipated experiencing a heart attack at his age. He is scheduled to undergo one final test in approximately a week to ensure complete healing before further cardiac assessments are conducted. Doctors are allowing his heart to settle and heal before proceeding with additional tests.

Importance of Health Checks

English hopes sharing his story will encourage others to prioritize their health and seek regular check-ups. He emphasized the importance of getting checked out and intends to do so himself moving forward. He also plans to incorporate a “me day” into his weekly routine, balancing his demanding performance schedule with personal well-being, as advised by his doctor.

Continuing a Busy Schedule

Despite the health scare, English remains committed to his career, stating he “eats, sleeps, and drinks the business.” He received medical clearance to resume performing and is eager to continue connecting with his audience.
