New Jersey Man Builds Snow Ice Cream Truck to Raise Funds for Children’s Hospital
Cranford, New Jersey – Robert Schott, a resident of Cranford, has crafted a remarkable snow sculpture – a fully-detailed replica of a 1953 Chevy Good Humor truck – to raise money for the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. Schott is selling Good Humor ice cream bars from the snow truck, with all proceeds benefiting the hospital.
A Labor of Love and a Family Tradition
The snow ice cream truck, which is 99% made of snow, is a tribute to Schott’s father, Joseph Schott, who volunteered at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in the 1960s and 1970s. Inspired by his father’s dedication, Robert Schott embarked on the ambitious project. “The delight the kids were getting — kids with really tough challenges in their lives and the parents who put so much out to care for their children — that got to my heart,” Robert Schott said.
From Snow to Sweet Treats
After 30 hours of work and using five tons of snow, Schott completed the intricate snow sculpture, complete with headlights, rims, and even a front seat. He then stocked the truck with hundreds of Good Humor bars, selling them for $5 each. The truck’s license plate reads “OHSOGOOD.”
Raising Thousands for a Worthy Cause
Since its grand opening on Friday evening, Schott has already raised over $5,000 for the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. The hospital, located in Mountainside, New Jersey, provides care for children with special needs. Schott hopes to maintain the truck operational as long as the weather permits, despite rising temperatures. News 12 New Jersey reported that many donors have generously contributed amounts exceeding the $5 price of the ice cream bars.

Joseph Schott, now approaching his 104th birthday, shared his memories of volunteering at the hospital. “I’d go there one evening a week to entertain the kids. Playing checkers, which I always let them win, mostly,” he said. Robert Schott emphasized his belief in volunteerism, highlighting his father’s long-standing commitment to the Children’s Specialized Hospital.
