RECOM Launches 4kW DC/DC Converter for E-Mobility Applications

RECOM Power has announced the RMOD4000 series, a new line of compact, plug-and-play DC/DC converters designed to provide isolated 14V, 28V, or 56VDC network rails from high-voltage traction batteries. The converters address the growing demand for efficient and reliable power solutions in electric vehicles and other mobile applications.

Key Features and Specifications

The RMOD4000 series offers up to 4kW of power, depending on the specific variant and input voltage. It accepts a wide input voltage range of 180VDC to 950VDC, accommodating various battery systems, including those up to 800V [RECOM Power – Mouser]. Conversion efficiency reaches up to 95%, minimizing energy loss and maximizing runtime.

Cooling options include baseplate or liquid cooling, ensuring reliable operation even in demanding environments. The output is fully regulated and protected against over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature and short circuits. Input protection features include under- and over-voltage lockout and active inrush suppression.

Advanced Control and Monitoring

The RMOD4000 series incorporates an isolated CAN J1939 interface, enabling control and data monitoring, including output voltage adjustment. A hardware on/off control (ignition) and HV-interlock function are also included for enhanced safety and system integration. An integrated OR-ing function allows for paralleling of units, providing redundancy or increased power capability with active current sharing [Electropages].

Robust Design and Certifications

Designed for harsh environments, the RMOD4000 series operates reliably within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C without derating. It meets full reinforced isolation standards to IEC62477-1, as well as vehicle safety standards ISO6469-3 and ISO 7637. The converters are also certified to the EMC standard ECER10 Rev 4 (E-mark).

The series is housed in a water- and dust-proof cast aluminum enclosure, meeting IP67 standards. Dimensions are 316mm x 254mm x 83mm, and sealed, plug-in connectors are provided for input and outputs [RECOM Power].

Applications

The RMOD4000 series is suitable for a wide range of battery-powered on- and off-highway vehicles, including forklifts, golf carts, AGVs, loaders, tractors, ships, and electric boats. Applications span marine, material handling, construction, airports, and general E-mobility systems [Electronics Media].
