Saudi Arabia Rides the Wave: New Surf Pools Attract Global Attention

Saudi Arabia is making a significant splash in the world of surfing, not with natural breaks, but with cutting-edge wave pool technology. The Kingdom is rapidly developing several ambitious surf park projects, signaling a broader strategy to diversify its economy and attract tourism through adventure sports. These developments are attracting attention from both seasoned surfers and those new to the sport, promising consistent, high-performance waves in the heart of the desert.

Adrena Red Sea: A New Landmark for Surfing in Saudi Arabia

The newest addition to Saudi Arabia’s growing surf scene is a 215-meter Endless Surf pool located at Adrena, a new adventure and entertainment district along the Red Sea coast. This massive saltwater pool, set to open on March 1st, will generate waves up to 2.1 meters high, catering to surfers of all skill levels. Adrena aims to be a comprehensive adventure destination, offering over 20 land and water experiences, including wakeboarding, snorkeling, diving, and various beach sports.

Beyond surfing, Adrena will feature a beach club with an infinity pool, a skatepark, a BMX pump track, and a zip line, transforming into a social hub at night with South American cuisine and DJ sets. Developers have prioritized accessibility, ensuring the park is inclusive for individuals with additional needs, with features like zero-depth entry pools and adaptable options for water activities.

Endless Surf Technology and Global Expansion

The Adrena Red Sea facility utilizes Endless Surf technology, designed to mimic the natural surfing experience by offering a variety of wave types. This isn’t Endless Surf’s only project in development. another pool is planned for São Paulo, Brazil, within the Lands of Saint Joseph residential community. The Brazilian pool will offer 40-second rides and be part of a premium amenities package for residents, including restaurants, a spa, and various sports facilities.

Saudi Arabia Joins the Global Wave Pool Revolution

Saudi Arabia’s investment in wave pool technology is part of a larger trend in the Middle East. Surf Abu Dhabi, a joint venture with the Kelly Slater Wave Company, is slated to host a World Surf League Championship Tour event in October. A wave pool project is similarly underway in Bahrain.

Qiddiya’s Surftopia: Another Wave on the Horizon

Located just outside Riyadh, Qiddiya City’s Aquarabia water theme park is also set to feature a wave pool, known as Surftopia. This development will be the country’s first wave pool powered by Endless Surf technology. Surftopia will utilize 32 programmable caissons to create customizable waves across four distinct zones, accommodating surfers of varying abilities. The pool will measure 180 meters by 73 meters and hold over 10,000 cubic meters of water, incorporating a canyon-style backdrop and rock facade. Aquarabia will also include 22 rides and attractions, with five being world firsts, divided into eight themed zones.

These projects reflect Qiddiya’s vision of blending entertainment with athletic development, positioning Saudi Arabia as a growing destination for adventure sports and recreation.
