Belle Reve Senior Living Under Investigation for Suspected Resident Neglect
MILFORD, PA – An anonymous tip led to an investigation at Belle Reve Senior Living Facility in Milford, Pennsylvania, on February 17, 2026, prompting the hospitalization of 15 residents for medical evaluation due to allegations of suspected medical neglect. Investigation Launched Following Anonymous Tip
The Pennsylvania State Police Troop R Major Case Team, along with Pike County detectives and the Pike County Area Agency on Aging, initiated an on-site response to Belle Reve, which houses 83 residents, after receiving the anonymous tip according to reports.
Residents Transported for Medical Evaluation
Fifteen residents were transported to four hospitals for further evaluation: Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, New York, Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, New York, Newton Medical Center in New Jersey, and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono in Pennsylvania as reported by WVIA. However, Heather Terhark, chief strategy officer for Viva Senior Living, which owns Belle Reve, stated that only 11 patients were sent for medical evaluation .
Facility Response and Ongoing Operations
Heather Terhark confirmed that an onsite review began on February 17th at approximately 1:30 p.m. She stated that some residents had returned by Tuesday evening, with others expected back on Wednesday. Terhark emphasized that the evaluations were precautionary and that the community remained open, fully staffed, and focused on resident care .
Family Concerns and Department of Human Services Involvement
One family member, whose mother was among those hospitalized, expressed concerns about the level of care at Belle Reve, alleging over-sedation, falls, and instances of residents being left unattended and in unsanitary conditions. They stated they felt more secure knowing their mother would be moved to a different facility .
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) confirmed its involvement, stating that it takes seriously the safety and wellbeing of residents in licensed personal care homes. Brandon Cwalina, a DHS spokesperson, indicated that a team was dispatched to investigate complaints received concerning Belle Reve .
