Fortunately, Gege Akutami returned with a brand new sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. Modulo is a sequel featuring different characters set years in the future. Fans have embraced this story despite its largely new cast of characters. Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo has enjoyed a successful run so far, but its end is quickly approaching.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo began its run in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump on September 8, 2025—approximately a year after the end of the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga [1]. The manga has proven to be a major success, with its first volume, released in January 2026, becoming one of the best-selling series of the month. As a sequel set 68 years after the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, it was always anticipated to be popular.
Gege Akutami Hinted At A 3 Volume Long Run
Immediately after its debut, Gege Akutami shared a message hinting at the length of the manga, setting expectations for fans. Akutami stated that Modulo would likely run for about three volumes, or six months of weekly releases [4].
“The opportunity to think about a lot of different ideas, like expanding on a part of the main story, refining some specific background setup, changing the time period, or even making a parallel story; and thus Modulo, which was actually the most crazy idea during its concept stage, came to fruition after going through serialisation meetings.

Weekly Shonen Jump revealed that Issues 13, 14, and 15 will each feature a cover page for Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. Having three color pages back-to-back is historically rare in Weekly Shonen Jump, leading many to believe this is a farewell to Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen. If Akutami intends to end the manga in three chapters, the magazine’s spotlight would make sense.

While the cover pages suggest an imminent ending, Jump also stated this could be due to the success of Gege Akutami and his story. If that’s the case, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo could continue for a few more chapters before reaching its conclusion.
The current storyline revolves around Yuji and Maru’s plan to eradicate cursed energy—a plot point originally introduced in the original JJK. While they could succeed, the plan could also backfire, potentially leading to a cataclysmic event. If Akutami wishes to continue the story, the current storyline offers versatility.
Even if Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo ends, another sequel is possible. The 68-year time gap between the original Jujutsu Kaisen and Modulo could be explored in a new manga, and fans would likely welcome it. Gege Akutami is a valuable asset to the magazine, and it’s unlikely Jump has seen the last of him.
